Mr. Grey- The Cat Who Lived

Last Friday night (July 11th) there was a rattlesnake traveling through our front yard. The cats stopped him and got him all pissed off. When I saw him out there, I went to get the water hose so I could spray the curious cats away from him. On my way back, we saw him bite Callie Kitty on the face. She ran off. Sometime during the night she came back and died on the deck. Later, I found Mr. Grey. He was alive but he looked horrible. Like something from a bad horror movie. His left side of his face was swelled to double the normal size and he was coated in blood. Blood coming from his mouth, eye, from the bite and there's no telling where else. I brought him in the house and cleaned him up the best I could. The only antibiotic anything I had were eye drops. I loaded his swelled shut eye and the bite mark I saw with the eye drops. Then his eye started opening and what came out of it was... oh God I can't even eat an egg anymore.. but you know that clearish-white jelly-like stuff you see when you cut into an undercooked fried egg? That's what it looked like. He was a little dehydrated and wouldn't drink water so I gave him some canned food (that he couldn't refuse) watered down so he got a little water and food at the same time. Then it was off to the vet! He was there for a while on strong injection antibiotics. The doctor cleaned out where the fangs went in at because it was starting to get a little necrotic. One fang obviously went in on his temple and another on his eye lid right above his eye. He's been home for a few days now and he's acting like a normal cat again. He gets a little gross though because he wants to rub around on my legs and it's all nice 'n stuff then I feel a sticky wet scabby thing drag across my leg. I gag in my mind then rub myself down with Purell. He's still on oral antibiotics, antibiotic eye drops and wound gel.  His eye lid and his bottom lip is still a bit droopy. I hope that fixes soon.

Here's some before and after pictures. And no, I wasn't just taking pictures of a poor cat in pain just for my scrapbook.. He was under the house and I didn't have a flashlight so I had to use my camera flash.
